What to Expect at Hooked Academy

Classes (Beginner to Advanced)

Structured, skill-building lessons designed to take you from “never held a hook” to confident maker. Each class focuses on one clear outcome, so you always leave with a new stitch, technique, or finished mini-project.

How it works:

  •  60–120 minute sessions (virtual or in-store)
  •  Small groups for real-time feedback
  •  Supply list provided
  • Step-by-step demos, live Q&A, and simple take-home guides

Who it’s for:

  • Total beginners who want a friendly start
  • Returning makers brushing up on fundamentals
  • Intermediate/advanced crocheters leveling up skills (texture, shaping, garments)

What you’ll learn:

  • Technical: Tension control, stitch anatomy, increases/decreases, reading patterns/charts
  • Practical: Yarn weights/fibers, hook sizes, blocking/finishing, fixing common mistakes
  • Creative: Combining colors, choosing patterns, adapting designs to your style

Why you’ll love it:

Clear progress, supportive instruction, and projects that actually get finished. Replays available for virtual classes where noted.

Social Sessions (Community Stitch-Alongs)

 What it is:

A relaxed, low-pressure meetup to stitch together, swap tips, and stay motivated. Think: cozy, chatty, and judgment-free—perfect for keeping your crochet habit joyful.

How it works:

  • Format: 60–120 minute group session (virtual or in-store)
  • Focus: One theme (e.g., Granny Squares, WIPs & Sips, Amigurumi Hour)
  • Flow: Quick demo or prompt, then open stitching time with light guidance
  • Materials: BYO yarn + hook, or grab supplies on site (in-store)
  • Perks: Themed handout or prompt; occasional maker spotlights and show-and-tell

Who it’s for:

All levels. Great for beginners who want practice time and for experienced makers who love community, accountability, and fresh inspiration.

 Session themes you can expect:

  • Granny Squares Social: Explore color combos and layouts
  • WIPs & Sips: Bring any “work in progress”—enjoy steady momentum
  • Amigurumi Hour: Tips for shaping, stuffing, and neat faces
  • Stash Busters: Use what you have—quick patterns and ideas

Why you’ll love it:

You’ll leave relaxed, inspired, and a few rows ahead. It’s the friendliest way to make crochet a weekly ritual.

Private Coaching (1-on-1)

 What it is:

Personalized crochet help tailored to you. Bring a tricky pattern, a specific skill goal, or a project you’re stuck on—we’ll troubleshoot together and set you up for success.

How it works:

  • Format: 30–60 minute one-on-one (virtual or in-store)
  • Prep: Share your goals or pattern link when booking
  • Session: Targeted instruction with live demos and hands-on correction
  • Follow-up: Notes, stitch references, and resource links tailored to your needs

Great for:

  • Reading patterns/charts and decoding abbreviations
  • Fixing tension issues and smoothing stitches
  • Learning new techniques (colorwork, cables, lace, amigurumi)
  • Sizing and shaping help for garments or accessories
  • Finishing: seaming, blocking, edging, and polish
  • Maker business Qs: pricing handmade items, labeling, simple photography (optional add-on)

What you’ll get:

  • A clear plan for your next steps
  • Specific techniques to practice
  • Confidence to keep going without second-guessing
  • Opportunity to ask any questions you have
